A LITTLE GUIDANCE FOR YOUR NEXT FLIGHT

How to run a blind whiskey tasting.

Let the glass make the first impression. BlindBildr is a bourbon and whiskey tasting app for scoring pours, revealing bottles, and keeping a personal notebook.

Set up. Taste. Reveal.

  1. Hide the labels. Label your glasses A, B, C, and so on. Have a host keep a private record of which bottle goes with each letter. For a solo tasting, ask someone to prepare the pours or shuffle labeled samples without looking at their identities.
  2. Create your flight. Choose the number of glasses and give the tasting a name. BlindBildr adds the current date automatically.
  3. Score what you enjoy. Rate nose, palate, and finish from 1 to 10 in 0.1 increments. Add notes as you go; bottle guesses can go in the notes too.
  4. Compare your way. Use By glass to work through one pour, or By category to compare every nose, then every palate and finish.
  5. Review and reveal. Open the summary, add the bottle names, and see your rankings. Scores stay editable. Share a dark portrait image, with tasting notes included only if you select them.

What are nose, palate, finish, and Balance?

Nose
What you smell before sipping. Consider how enjoyable the aromas are and how they come together.
Palate
What you taste and feel while sipping. Consider how enjoyable the flavors, texture, and overall mouthfeel are.
Finish
What stays with you after swallowing. Consider how enjoyable the lingering flavors are and how they fade.
Balance
How well the different elements work together. Consider whether anything overwhelms the experience or feels out of place.

How does weighted scoring work?

The default overall score is nose × 25% + palate × 50% + finish × 25%. A glass rated 7.0 for nose, 8.0 for palate, and 7.0 for finish scores 7.5 overall.

Customize the weights to match your preferences, or enable Balance as a fourth category. Active weights total 100%. Overall scores round to the nearest tenth, and glasses with equal rounded scores share a rank.

Tasting FAQ

How many bourbons should I put in a flight?

Three or four is a manageable starting point for comparing differences. Use the plus and minus controls to match the glasses on your table. The labels are assigned automatically, starting with A.

Can I use BlindBildr without an account?

Yes. Solo tastings save in this browser, and you can host or join a room without signing in. Optional Sign in with ChatGPT connects a private notebook across devices.

What happens to my tastings when I sign in?

Guest tastings remain on the device. In My account, choose “Copy device tastings to account” to add them to your synced notebook. The originals remain in guest history. An unfinished tasting can be copied too.

How do group tastings work?

A host creates a room and shares the guest link or room code. Guests join with a nickname. The host chooses the categories and controls when scores and bottle identities are revealed. Keep your private return link to access a room from another device. Account syncing is for your notebook; room access uses its own return links.

Can I change my scores after seeing the summary?

Yes. Use Edit beside any glass or Compare by category. The summary is editable, and the rankings update when you change scores.

What information is saved?

Guest solo tastings are stored in your browser. Signed-in notebook tastings and room data are stored online. Sign in with ChatGPT supplies your account identity and email; BlindBildr uses them to associate your private notebook with you. BlindBildr does not collect your ChatGPT password. Room scores and notes become visible to participants when the host opens results.

How do I keep a backup or move from the original site?

Use Export backup in Past tastings. You can import that file on another device or address. If you used our original hosted address, open it in the browser where you tasted and either export a backup or sign in and copy device tastings into your account. Browser-only history does not automatically move between addresses.

Does BlindBildr cost anything to use?

BlindBildr is currently free to use. You do not need a paid BlindBildr account to taste, join rooms, or use the notebook.
